Ordinance No. 2024-23 Relating to the Citizens’ Police Review Board; Amending Chapter 48, Article V, Section 48.15 of the Code of the City of Orlando, Florida; Repealing Chapter 48, Article V, Section 48.16 and Section 48.17 of the Code of the City of Orlando, Florida (OPD)

Summary:

On April 12, 2024, House Bill 601 was signed by the Governor, creating Florida Statutes Section 30.61, effective July 1, 2024. House Bill 601 expressly permits the Chief of Police to establish a civilian oversight board to review the policies and procedures of his or her department and its subdivisions. Article V of Chapter 48 of the Code of the City of Orlando must be amended to comply with Florida law.

Recommended Action:

Adopting Ordinance No. 2024-23, and authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute the same, after review and approval by the City Attorney.
