The City of Orlando is committed to ensuring that every person, regardless of economic status, has access to quality housing that is safe and affordable. We have been working to develop short and long-term strategies to expand the city's housing inventory for residents at all income levels. Addressing affordable housing will require a multi-pronged approach with cooperation from our regional government partners, state and federal government and private sector partners. The proposed Building Permit Fee Rebate for Certified Affordable Housing Projects Pilot Program is one approach to incentivizing and promoting affordable housing units within the City of Orlando.
Under the proposed pilot program, the City of Orlando will be dedicating portions of the building fund revenues to Affordable Housing projects. The funds will be used to rebate/reduce building permit fees when a project meets the program standards.
