Commissioner Hill would like to make a $15,000 donation from District 5 funds to the Valencia College Foundation to support the inaugural Parramore Community Construction Training Program and help make the program more affordable for City residents. In the six-week workforce training program, residents learn a variety of basic construction skills that are required for many entry-level positions in the field of building construction. There are currently 31 students enrolled in the program being hosted at the UCF Center for Emerging Media in District 5.
Partnerships are in place for graduates of the program to be considered for construction on the new UCF/Valencia Downtown Campus and other development projects in Central Florida.
Average wages for entry-level positions are $12 to $14 per hour. This program does not require a high school diploma or GED to enroll.
The demand for skilled workers in Central Florida continues to grow with more than $9 billion of construction projects in process and planned for our community in the next few years.
This expenditure will serve an important public purpose in District 5 and for the entire City.
