Subject:
Contract between the City of Orlando and the Florida Department of Corrections for Maintenance and Landscaping Services

Summary:

The City of Orlando and the Department of Corrections (Department) have previously entered into contracts (Contract) for the provision of inmate labor crews to assist in maintaining landscape areas throughout the City of Orlando.  Based on the success of the program in past years, City staff recommends entering into a new contract effective April 30, 2018 and expiring April 29, 2019.  

The Department provides two, five-person inmate work squads and two corrections officers to supervise the inmates for forty hours per week.  The City pays the salaries and position-related expenses of the assigned correction officers but not inmate labor.  Using these crews significantly reduces the cost of landscape maintenance throughout the City.

Recommended Action:
Approval of the attached Contract and authorization for the Mayor or Mayor Pro Tem to execute same, subject to review and approval by the City Attorney's Office.
