Memorandum of Understanding for NRPA Disney Meet Me at the Park Grant

Summary:

The Families, Parks and Recreation Department (FPR) is seeking $20,000 in grant funding from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) via the "Parks Build Community Program."  Made possible through the support of Disney, ABC, and ESPN, the program aims to improve local parks through projects that connect children and nature, help children and families live healthier lives, and increase children's access to sports.  In 2015 and 2016, FPR successfully secured grants through this process, enabling the Department to make improvements at Bill Frederick Park and the Engelwood Neighborhood Center.  This year, FPR is seeking funding for one of the following projects, to be selected via NRPA's online voting process:

-Installation of fitness equipment at Al Coith Park.

-Improving basketball courts and the multi-purpose field, and purchasing sports equipment, at the John H. Jackson Neighborhood Center.

-Adding fitness equipment and improvements to the fitness trail at Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake.

Should one of these projects be selected for grant funding, the City of Orlando will be asked to enter into the attached Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NRPA. By approving this agenda item, City Council authorizes signing of the MOU and acceptance of the grant.

Fiscal & Efficiency Data: No fiscal impact.

Recommended Action:

Authorize signing of the attached MOU to confirm approval of the terms governing the acceptance and expenditure of Twenty Thousand Dollars ($20,000) made available to the City's Families, Parks and Recreation Department for implementation of a project selected via public online voting.
