Funding Agreement between the City of Orlando and Housing and Neighborhood Development of Central Florida, Inc. (HANDS)

Summary:

Housing and Neighborhood Development Services of Central Florida, Inc. (HANDS) provides housing counseling services to residents of the City of Orlando to help prepare them for home ownership. The City has previously funded these services with HANDS under our Community Development Block Grant program as a public service. Staff is requesting approval to provide $75,000 through our State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program (SHIP) funding. Under terms of our 2015-2018 Local Housing Assistance Plan (LHAP), pre-purchase counseling is an eligible activity and funds have been set aside for this purpose. The agreement will provide funding for twelve (12) Seminars with an average of 25 city residents each (total of 300), as well as approximately 552 hours of individual counseling.

Recommended Action:
Staff requests the City Council approve the SHIP agreement with HANDS and authorize the Mayor to sign the agreement.
