Summary:
The Orlando City Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of children in Central Florida. The Foundation believes in using the sport of soccer and the powerful influence of the Orlando City organization to promote exercise and healthy eating among children and families, and to inspire them to reach their full potential. Orlando City harnesses the cooperation of its players, staff, fans and community partners to make a difference in the lives of others.
The Orlando City Foundation has received grant and donor funding to cover the cost of converting a City tennis facility into a hard court soccer pitch in the Tampa Avenue area. Conversion of an underutilized tennis court at Rock Lake Community Center will benefit the area and is therefore recommended for conversion under this project.
If approved, this project will become the City's third hard court soccer facility. Not only will the facility serve Orlando's growing soccer community but, in partnership with the Orlando City Foundation, children who attend the City's Rock Lake Community Center, and other after school and summer programs in the area, will receive free soccer training.
By approving this agenda item, City Council grants permission to the Orlando City Foundation to convert a tennis court at Rock Lake into a hard court soccer facility, at no cost to the City. City staff will provide oversight of the project to ensure it conforms with City requirements. |
