Summary:
The Families, Parks and Recreation Department has leveraged numerous AmeriCorps grants to facilitate scale-up of the City's children's programs, enabling the department to hire an estimated 150 AmeriCorps members each year. Members are deployed to school and after school sites throughout the City, to support the academic and social success of Orlando's children.
One of FPR's AmeriCorps members - Bresly Oralus - has been awarded the prestigious 2016 AmeriCorps Member of the Year Award for the State of Florida. This award honors the Florida AmeriCorps Member who best exemplifies service and "getting things done" in Florida. The award is meant to elevate service provided daily by thousands of AmeriCorps Members across the state.
Mayor Dyer will call upon Tyler Chandler, After-School All-Stars Executive Director, to step to the podium to introduce Mr. Oralus, who will speak briefly about the importance of this work. This will be followed by photos with Mr. Oralus in front of the dais. |
