| | | | | | | | | Subject: | Proposed ordinance #2016-40, relating to afterhours nightclubs | | Summary: | On December 7, 2015 City Council approved ordinance #2015-58 which established a temporary moratorium on the opening of any new" afterhours nightclubs" in the City of Orlando, and also on the relocation or expansion of any existing afterhours nightclub.
The moratorium will last through October 31, 2016, unless terminated earlier by ordinance of the Orlando City Council.
The ordinance also provided for a City of Orlando Nightclubs Task Force. The Task Force is comprised of City of Orlando staff. The primary purpose of the Task Force is to recommend findings of fact to the Mayor regarding nightclubs (including afterhours nightclubs).
To complete a comprehensive review of the nighttime economy the City has engaged the assistance of the Responsible Hospitality Institute to complete a Hospitality Zone Assessment. To allow the appropriate amount of time to complete the robust nature of this assessment, ordinance #2016-40 changes the date the Task Force shall report from, no later than July 1, 2016, to no later than September 1, 2016. The duration of the moratorium remains the same.
