Summary:
Bike Florida is inviting applicants for the inaugural $25,000 Share the Road Challenge Grant Program. The Grant Program requires a 1:1 match. The purpose of the Program is to stimulate creative thinking, and how to better facilitate cycling and improve bike-pedestrian safety at the community level in the State of Florida.
The Economic Development Department would like to take this grant opportunity to improve the Parramore community which is considered one of the more economically challenged neighborhoods within the City. This community has a need to serve residents with a more viable bikeway network, to enhance the existing bicycle infrastructure and to improve the existing corridors with pavement markings.
The proposed City Grant application includes the following improvements: installation of green bicycle pavement markings on Westmoreland Drive from Gore Street to Amelia Street to provide an enhanced bicycle route to the new Parramore Community School. These green pavement markings will provide a more defined and visible north/south bicycle route for residents and students. The overall goal of the project is to increase the bikeability of the neighborhood while providing a safer connection to the Parramore Community School.
The estimated total project cost is $25,000 and Economic Development Department anticipates receiving $12,500 from the grantor. |
