Summary:
The City of Orlando entered into an agreement with Experience Works in 2009 and, at the same time, the Orlando City Council authorized the Director of Families, Parks and Recreation to sign extensions to the Agreement as well as any non-substantive Agreement modifications. The Agreement with Experience Works provides opportunities for low income senior citizens ages 55 and older to gain work experience to prepare them for the workforce, as part of the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) federally-funded through the Older Americans Act. The Agreement was renewed in 2012, allowing participants to be placed at the Beardall Senior Center, where they answer phones and assist patrons who attend the Center and its programs. These services are provided at no cost to the City.
Administration of the program has now shifted from Experience Works to another organization - the AARP Foundation. As a result, the City's Agreement needs to be with the AARP Foundation instead of Experience Works. The change in program administration is considered to be substantive and therefore requires City Council approval. There are no further changes in the scope of the Agreement, and the program will continue to operate as it has at the Beardall Center. |
