Summary:
Every three years the Florida Building Commission (the "Commission") updates the Florida Building Code. The Commission recently adopted the Florida Building Code, Fifth Edition (2014), which goes into effect statewide on June 30, 2015. As the "local enforcement agency" pursuant to the Florida Building Codes Act, the City is responsible for regulating the design, construction, erection, alteration, modification, repair, and demolition of public and private buildings, structures, and facilities, in accordance with the current edition of the Florida Building Code. If adopted and signed into law, the attached proposed ordinance will amend Article I, Chapter 13, Orlando City Code, to adopt the Florida Building Code, Fifth Edition (2014), for use by the City’s building official. The proposed ordinance would also provide several local amendments to the administrative provisions of the building code and would designate the ultimate design wind speed for regulated buildings and other structures within the City’s jurisdiction. |
