On August 24, 2011, a Notice of Intent was provided in accordance with the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Railroad Administration’s final rule regarding the use of Locomotive Horns at Highway-Rail Grade Crossings.
On September 17, 2012, the City of Orlando entered into a Locally Funded Agreement with the State of Florida Department of Transportation, for construction of the Central Florida Commuter Rail System. The project included supplemental safety measures to the grade crossings at Wilkinson Street, King Street/Scofield Drive, Princeton Street and a pedestrian crossing. These improvements allowed for quiet zone operations of the railroad facility in the area of Florida Hospital.
This new Quiet Zone will be referenced as the Orlando North Quiet Zone. The Orlando North Quiet Zone shall go into effect starting July 21, 2015. The time period for the restrictions shall be twenty-four (24) hours a day.
The attached letter represents the Notice of Quiet Zone Establishment which encompasses the following highway-rail grade crossings: Wilkinson Street, King Street/Scofield Drive and Princeton Street.
