Summary:
Based upon a prior Council approval to use McCree for design build services for a total of three stations, on October 20, 2014 City Council approved a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) contract ($140,450) with McCree for site construction services for the Temporary Fire Station No.2 and planning and preliminary design services for the future permanent Fire Station No. 2. The Temporary station was completed in December 2014 on the east side of the parcel located at the NE corner of Robinson Street and Hames Avenue. The Temporary Station became fully operational in early January 2015. Under another contract, the station housing (modular structure) is provided to OFD by a private company via an 18 month lease.
With the modular lease set to expire in mid 2016, it is important to progress towards the permanent station. A portion of the funding approved by Council on October 20, 2014 was used to facilitate preliminary planning and 30% design plans, which were recently completed. McCree used these plans to prepare a GMP for the Permanent Station (four bays). GMP negotiations were completed with McCree in early May of this year. The GMP is $4.6M. Savings to the City were gleaned as a result of using the pro-typical station design which was previously designed and implemented by McCree for Fire Station No. 7. The Permanent Station will be constructed on the west side of the parcel at the NE corner of Robinson Street and Hames Avenue (right beside the temporary station). The permanent station is scheduled for completion and full operation prior to the expiration of the temporary station modular lease.
McCree has worked closely with the City’s MBE/WBE department throughout the delivery of the Temporary Station and during the initial phases of the Permanent Station. They will continue to do so. McCree exceeded the City’s goals on the Temporary Station and has committed /pledged to meet and/or exceed the City’s required goals pertaining to the Permanent Fire Station No.2 GMP. |
