Application for FY2015 DOJ Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant

Summary:
The City of Orlando wishes to apply for funding from the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Program to supplement the City's purchase of body armor for its sworn police officers and Community Service Officers. OPD will request $184,479.68 for the purchase of approximately 352 vests. This grant provides reimbursement up to 50% of any National Institute of Justice (NIJ) approved bulletproof vests purchased by the City.

The grant requires the law enforcement agency to have a written "mandatory wear" policy in effect for all uniformed officers while on duty. OPD has implemented a "mandatory wear" policy, which has been approved by BJA.

Fiscal & Efficiency Data: Fiscal Impact Statement will be generated at the time the money is appropriated.

Recommended Action:
Approval of the Application by the City Council and execution by the Mayor of the authorization letter officially designating Lilian Draisin with the authority to submit the grant electronically on behalf of the City of Orlando.
