Summary:
The Families, Parks & Recreation Department proposes to enter into a partnership with the Orlando Repertory Theatre ("the REP"), wherein youth who participate in City afterschool programs at the Dover Shores, Wadeview, Rosemont and Callahan Neighborhood Centers will engage in an intensive arts residency program. The program, offered by REP staff and funded via a grant from Walt Disney World, will be offered twice a week at the aforementioned City recreation centers during the period of March 9 - May 30, 2015.
Of note, the program's theme is bullying prevention, in alignment with Mayor Buddy Dyer's "Stand Up Orlando" Campaign. Exploring what it means to be an ensemble, participating youth will master theatre arts and social skills, while learning about collaboration and the role that the arts can play in combating bullying.
At the end of the program, participants will showcase what they have learned during two performances in the REP's Universal Theatre. The first performance will be held on the evening of Friday, May 29th; the second will be a matinee on Saturday, May 30th.
