Summary:
The WW Division on October 31, 2014, submitted an application for $200,000 in matching funds for a boardwalk creation and trail renovation project. The application was made to the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP). This is a competitive grant in which many municipalities throughout Florida compete for available grant monies.
The City of Orlando wishes to construct a new 1800’ elevated wooden boardwalk in cell 16A, 1,000’ of new equestrian trail along with the renovation of 3.5 miles of equestrian trails and 1 mile of renovated hiking trails. These trails will help link the Orlando Wetlands Park with the Bronson State Forest to the north and the Seminole Ranch Wildlife Management Area to the east. The project will also allow visitors to experience the Wetlands Park in safe manner, while also expanding educational opportunities at the Park.
A Public Meeting was held in conjunction with this project at the Wetlands Park on October 29, 2014 to gain the public’s input and support. A Public Meeting Notice was published in the local newspaper on October 26, 2014 announcing the meeting.
