Summary:
The Minority/Women Business Assistance Program was approved by the CRA on August 28, 2006. The MEBA Program assists with small business retention and creation in the MEBA target area as defined within the Downtown Orlando Community Redevelopment Area. The MEBA Program provides financial assistance of up to $40,000.00 to qualified new and existing retail and service businesses for retention/relocation expenses, purchase of capital equipment, marketing services, and business start-up expenses.
The Design House of Colour, LLC is a training and retail concept that will offer professional garment printing and decorating instruction, along with a marketplace where retail products produced by program graduates, fashion designers, and internally by The Design House of Colour, LLC will be showcased. The concept was conceived by Dr. Renee Forbes Williams and will be located at 595 West Church Street at the base of the City View tower. The applicant has requested $40,000.00 to be used towards capital equipment, site improvements, rent abatement, and marketing expenses.
The MEBA Advisory Board approved funding up to $40,000.00 at the November 12, 2014 MEBA Advisory Board Meeting.
The Community Redevelopment Agency Advisory Board recommended approval of funding up to $40,000.00 at the January 28, 2015 Board Meeting.
