FY 2014 Department of Justice Award for Solving Cold Cases with DNA

Summary:
The Department of Justice approved OPD's application for a grant to assist OPD in investigating and solving cold homicide cases through DNA.  The grant award of $81,446.00 will be used to offset overtime, travel and DNA processing by an independent lab. The grant award period is from October 1, 2014 to September 30, 2016. There are several special conditions which apply to OPD and other City Departments, each of which we are able to meet.

FY 2014 DOJ, Office of Justice Programs, National Institute of Justice (NIJ) grant award of $81,446.00, application for which was approved by City Council on May 12, 2014.

Recommended Action:
Approval by City Council, and execution of the grant award documents by the Mayor, subject to review and approval by the City Attorney's Office and the Grants Development Supervisor.
