Ordinance No. 2014-18 Of The City Council Of The City Of Orlando, Florida, Rezoning Certain Land Generally Located North Of Freezone St., East Of Boggy Creek Rd., South Of 8th St., And West Of Tradeport Dr., And Comprised Of 48 Acres Of Land, More Or Less, From The R-3A Low Intensity Development District, In Part, And The P Public Use District, In Part, To The I-P Industrial Park District, In Part, And The I-P Industrial Park District With The RP Resource Protection Overlay District, In Part, On The City’s Official Zoning Maps (Ecocnomic Development) (Southport Industrial Parcel, ZON2013-00026)


The subject property is approximately 53.979 gross acres in area and is generally located south of Dowden Rd. (a.k.a. 8th St.) and east of Family Camp Road.  The property is undeveloped.

The subject property is part of the former Orlando Naval Training Center (NTC) McCoy Annex.  The closure of the McCoy Annex property was announced in 1993 and completed by 1997. In 2001-2002 Orlando adopted the Southport Vision Plan for the redevelopment of about 235 acres of former Navy property still owned by the City.  The Southport Vision Plan was modified to show Industrial as the proposed use for the subject property and further updated in 2006. 

The City intends to seek a developer who specializes in the development of industrial sites for the 53.979 acre subject site. The purpose of the proposed change in zoning is to prepare the Industrial Parcel for sale and development.

Recommended Action:
Approve the attached ordinance number 2014-18 on first reading and request that the Mayor and the City Clerk present the draft ordinance for second reading and public hearing at the next regular City Council meeting.
