Summary:
A Gift For Music is the nationally recognized, award winning music education program of a Gift for Teaching. Using a combination of after school, in school, weekend, and summer programming, A Gift for Music has one of the most comprehensive string music education programs in the State of Florida. Recently, A Gift for Music was recognized by the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities as one of the top 50 Arts Education programs in the United States and selected as a finalist in the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards.
Most of A Gift For Music's students enter the program at a local Title I elementary school. However, as a result of a grant to the Orlando Community & Youth Trust from the International House of Blues Foundation, combined with support from the Winifred Johnson Clive Foundation, this program will be expanded to serve 30 children at the City's John H. Jackson Community Center Tuesdays and Thursdays after school from 3:15-5:30 p.m. from October 7, 2014 - May 29, 2015.
Mayor Dyer will call upon Rodney Williams, Recreation Division Manager to introduce Eric Smith from A Gift for Music. Mr. Smith will say a few words on behalf of A Gift for Music and introduce Jen Thielhelm representing the Winifred Johnson Clive Foundation. A representative from the John H. Jackson Center will be on hand to recognize the International House of Blues Foundation.
Each Foundation will present a check from their respective agencies in recognition of their support for the project.
Rodney Williams will then invite Mayor Dyer and District 5 Commissioner Regina Hill to come from the dais to take pictures with the group.
