2014-2015 Central Florida Sports Commission Funding Agreement

Summary:

The Central Florida Sports Commission strategically solicits, creates and supports marquee sports-related events and business that enhance our local economy. The Central Florida Sports Commission is a non-profit, private organization created to attract international, national and regional events and sports-related business and activities to Central Florida. The Sports Commission is our community’s clearinghouse and first point of contact for sports and sports-related activities and is committed to developing and enhancing the region’s sports brand.

The sports commission works locally, regionally, nationally and internationally with event organizers in the areas of site/facilities selection, budget development, development of local organizing committees, and event management oversight. Additionally, the Sports Commission has successfully developed and managed a number of unique sports-related entertainment events.

The Central Florida Sports Commission has requested funding for Fiscal Year 2014/2015. The City's contribution of $96,724 will assist in achieving the goals set forth in the attached agreement. Funding is split between the Economic Development Department ($72,349) and the Orlando Venues ($24,375).

The Central Florida Sports Commission has tentative additional funding support ranging from $95,000– $635,000 from Orange, Osceola, Lake, Volusia and Seminole Counties.

Recommended Action:

Approval of the 2014-2015 Central Florida Sports Commission Funding Agreement and authorization for the Mayor to execute the funding agreement subject to the review and approval by the City Attorney's Office.
