| | | | | | | | Subject: | King St & Orange Av Mast Arm Traffic Signal Memorandum of Understanding with FDOT | Summary: | This memorandum of understanding (MOA) will allow Florida Hospital, under the supervision of the City, to reconstruct the traffic signal at the intersection of East King St and North Orange Av (SR 527) as part of the construction of their new parking garage at King St and Sanitarium Dr. They are planning to improve the intersection by adding turn lanes, widening the King St east approach, incorporating pedestrian features, and replacing the span wire traffic signals with mast arm assemblies.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requires the City to execute a MOA with the Department to clarify the City's maintenance responsibilities. The City is currently responsible for periodic maintenance of the existing traffic signal, and FDOT partially compensates the City through the annual Traffic Signal Maintenance Compensation Agreement. A new mast arm traffic assembly will require less maintenance and repair effort than the existing span wire equipment. The only additional maintenance required is repainting the structure and controller cabinet approximately every 10 years.
