Subject:Application for FY 2014-2015 U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, FDLE, Florida JAG Countywide for Overtime for DUI Enforcement Team
Summary:The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) is a formula grant that provides funding for local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support and information systems to support law enforcement programs.  OPD plans to use this grant to fund overtime for officers to staff a DUI Enforcement Team.  The objective of this team is to efficiently and safely remove suspected DUI offenders and traffic violators from the highways by mobile, high visibility traffic enforcement tactics.  The team consists of specially trained officers who conduct bi-weekly operations.  The City of Orlando anticipates receiving approximately $58,233.00, which will allow OPD to staff a DUI Enforcement Team.
Fiscal and Efficiency Data:FIS not required at this time.
Recommended Action:Approval of the grant application by City Council and execution of signature memo by Mayor, subject to review by the City Attorney's Office and the Grant Development Supervisor.
