8 Weeks to Wellness Agreement

Summary:
The Florida Department of Health has established the Eight Weeks to Wellness Program- an up to date, common sense health outreach package. As part of the Healthiest Weight Initiative launched at the State Surgeon General's Symposium on Healthiest Weight  in January 2013, this program combines the latest evidence-based population health research and tested behavior change principles to help participants achieve a healthier lifestyle.

As part of their goal to provide assistance to local counties, cities, and community partners to inform them of healthy choices, the Orange County Department of Health will offer an 8 Weeks to Wellness program at four (4) different City recreation centers throughout the course of this agreement. Weekly topics include: healthy lifestyle development; being more physically active; choosing healthy fats and carbohydrates to achieve and maintain a healthy weight; stress management; and preventative health checks.

In exchange for this free service, DOH employees will have the opportunity to purchase an annual membership to City facilities with gymnasiums and weight rooms.

Fiscal & Efficiency Data: No fiscal impact.

Recommended Action:
Council approval for agreement with Orange County Department of Health.
