FY2015 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Application

Summary:
The FY2015 Assistance to Firefighters Grant is issued by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  The objective of the FY 2015 AFG Program is to award grants directly to fire departments for needed resources to protect the public and to train emergency personnel. The purpose of the AFG Program is to enhance through direct financial assistance, the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel and to provide a continuum of support for emergency responders regarding fire, medical, and all hazard events. OFD will be applying for approximately $180,000 for Chest Compression Devices to aid rescue personnel and $25,000.00 to provide community paramedic training.  The total grant application will be for approximately $205,000.00.  

Fiscal & Efficiency Data: No fiscal impact to the City at this time.  See attached Fiscal Impact Statement.

Recommended Action:
Approval of the grant application by City Council to apply for grant and execution of authorization letter by Mayor.
