Summary:
The City of Orlando is submitting a request for funding through Phase II of FDOT’s Quiet Zone Grant Funding program. The City seeks to enter into a Joint Participation Agreement with FDOT to provide shared funding for the final design and construction costs of adding Supplemental Safety Measures at two rail crossings along the corridor serving SunRail and various freight operators.
On January 29, 2015, the FDOT Grant Program awarded $974,198.76 for Phase I to the City of Orlando which will be matched with $1,806,000 in City funds. These funds will be used for a design/build project underway in coordination with FDOT.
The City of Orlando has budgeted $300,000 for Phase II of this project (50.0% of the total estimate). The City is requesting consideration of a Phase II grant in the amount of $300,000 to fund the remaining 50.0% of this effort. If awarded, the Phase II grant will bring the City closer to the goal of treating every rail crossing on the SunRail corridor in Orlando with Federal Railroad Administration approved Supplemental Safety Measures. |
