Summary:
The State of Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM), has awarded $950,000.00 ($1,000,000.00 less the 5% State Management and Administration costs) in 2014 Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant funding to the Orlando/Orange Urban Area (O/OUA) participants. The participants includes Orange, Seminole, Brevard, Lake, Osceola, and Volusia Counties, and the City of Orlando. The purpose of the UASI grant is to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism.
Orange County Sheriff, Jerry Demings, is the administrator for the Orlando/Orange O/OUA. By signing the 2014 Memorandum of Agreement, the members agree to the scope of work and responsibilities within. |

Fiscal & Efficiency Data:
The 2014 UASI grant enables the City of Orlando to receive reimbursement from the Orange County Sheriff for equipment, training, travel and salary expenditures that qualify under the terms of the regional homeland security grant program. Any City Department (e.g. Police, Fire, Public Works, etc.) receiving equipment under the UASI grant will be required to make budgetary accommodation for future maintenance, insurance, or training costs for same.

Recommended Action:
City Council approval and authorization for the Mayor to execute the MOA with the Sheriff for the 2014 UASI grant, subject to review by the City Attorney and Grants Manager. |
