Summary:
In an effort to make Florida the healthiest state in the nation, the Florida Department of Health launched the Healthy Weight Community Champion Recognition Program, as part of the Healthiest Weight Florida initiative. The program invites local governments to submit their best practice policies that promote physical activity and improve nutrition in their jurisdiction.
Examples of “best practices” include whether a jurisdiction maintains a system of parks, provides incentive programs to attract grocery stores to under-served neighborhoods and prioritizes personal safety in areas where people can increase physical activity. In 2014, 38 communities, including the City of Orlando, were recognized for their policies and programs which affect 9.4 million Floridians.
The attached resolution will be included as part of the City's 2015 Healthy Weight Community Champion application. |
