Summary:
Florida Statutes Chapter 175 provides that the City's Firefighters' Pension Board be made up of two members elected by the pension plan participants, two City-resident members appointed by the City Council and a fifth member elected by the other four members. After the fifth member is chosen, the City Council ministerially appoints the fifth member to the Firefighters' Pension Board.
Retired OFD District Chief Shannon Raybon has been serving as the fifth member of the Firefighters' Pension Board. Mr. Raybon is relocating out of the Orlando area and has submitted his resignation to the Board. At the Firefighters' Pension Board meeting held on August 28, 2014, the trustees chose District Chief Edward Torres to serve as the fifth member of the Board. District Chief Torres will complete the remainder of Mr. Raybon's term and will begin a new two-year term on October 1, 2014. This appointment to the Firefighters' Pension Board is effective immediately and will continuing through September 30, 2016.
