Summary:
The City of Orlando wishes to apply for funding from the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Program to supplement the City's purchase of body armor for its sworn police officers and Community Service Officers. During the two (2) years of the grant program, OPD anticipates purchasing a number of vests for a cost that has yet to be determined. The grant provides reimbursement up to 50% of any National Institute of Justice (NIJ) approved bulletproof vests purchased by the City.
The grant requires the law enforcement agency to have a written "mandatory wear" policy in effect for all uniformed officers while on duty. OPD has implemented a "mandatory wear" policy, which has been approved by BJA.
