Summary:
The Best Foot Forward for Pedestrian Safety Program, "BFF" is a coalition of civic leaders, public safety officials, engineers, educators, transportation planners, advocates and concerned citizens. The City of Orlando, along with Orlando Health, Lynx, Orange County, Winter Park, Maitland, Eatonville, Windermere and Winter Garden as well as the police chief for the City of Orlando and the Orange County Sheriff are charter members of Best Foot Forward.
Best Foot Forward was created to prevent pedestrian/ vehicle crashes and to improve pedestrian safety, while encouraging walking as a safe, fun form of transportation and promoting a healthy activity.
Funds will be utilized to continue the Best Foot Forward project by raising awareness of Florida's law requiring drivers to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, increasing the percentage of drivers obeying the law, placing an emphasis on the consequences of careless crossing so as to get more pedestrians to use crosswalks and educating students with a pedestrian safety curriculum.
