This past year, the City, in conjunction with See Art Orlando, initiated a major Public Sculpture Community Project to enhance the aesthetic experience and cultural image of Downtown Orlando. The CITY and See Art Orlando sought the support of the local business community to provide funds for the Sculpture Project to avoid placing a burden on City taxpayers . See Art Orlando successfully installed eight major pieces of public art in downtown. As part of the project, OUC managed the installation of LED lights at each art location.
In addition, the City and OUC agreed that it will be beneficial to the community to offset the cost and environmental impact of the electricity to illuminate the Sculpture Project with solar energy. OUC is contributing to the Sculpture Project by donating a solar array that will be installed on a City -owned building at a future date, which will make the See Art Orlando sculptures 100% powered by renewable energy.
This agreement formalizes that rights and responsibilities between the City, OUC, and Strengthen Orlando. Generally, the agreement stipulates that 1) the City will be responsible for the long-term maintenance of the equipment, 2) OUC will be responsible for installation of the lights and solar equipment and donate the solar array and a five-year solar warranty, and 3) Strengthen Orlando, acting as the fiscal agent for See Art Orlando, will be responsible for paying OUC for the materials and labor for installation of the lighting.
